Not going to happen...would be nice though, I know I'd be a fat 737 FO line holder with 6 1/2 years seniority when we merged the lists as per ALPA bylaws!

I think he is making a reference (though a vague one at that) to the seniority list merging policy that states that if two ALPA carriers merge, then the pilots will be integrated by date of hire.

Hopefully he is just being sarcastic, because if he is at all serious, he is not only sorely lost in airline industry dreamland, but he might actually have some sort of learning disability.

But that isn't how ALPA Merger Policy works as most of us know. Here is the nitty gritty straight from the policy:

    5. The merger representatives shall carefully weigh all the equities inherent in their merger situation. In joint session, the merger representatives should attempt to match equities to various methods of integration until a fair and equitable agreement is reached, keeping in mind the following goals, in no particular order:

    a. Preserve jobs.
    b. Avoid windfalls to either group at the expense of the other.
    c. Maintain or improve pre merger pay and standard of living.
    d. Maintain or improve pre merger pilot status.
    e. Minimize detrimental changes to career expectations.

Right...but what he is referring to would be considered a "windfall" and an "inequity."

    career expectations???

I was told by my flight instructor that I would be sitting in a 777 with in 8 years, so my expectation should be met cuz i pay dues.

Even if xjet has no intention or hint of ever getting 73's or 777s I want my seat. N O W!!!!!! or when the merger happens.

Even though I don't think Capt A was being serious his post shows a common misunderstanding of ALPA merger and fragmentation policy. It seems for some strange reason most people believe that it involves date of hire. As neal posted it does not say anything about date of hire anyware.

When the AWA USairways merger is all said and done I am sure date of hire will not be much of a factor.

I always thought that pre-merger career expections was the biggest factor.
