Thread: RAH update....

    Just gave a Js to a to a RAH captain that has some interesting stuff to say.

    She said that the company giving pay raises out side of the CBA process is going to bring the company down, if the company was to duck the CBA they are "releasing themselves to self help" outside of mediation. If RAH moves forward they are ready to shut the place down 4/1/2012 if they self help.

    Also, she is convinced they are going to get all the eagle flying, but have no way to staff it.

    Apparently, the FO that put up the website on "why not to work..." Has been suspended and was held 'hostage' by the company for a lengthy period of time and might lawyer up. The website has created a lawsuit against the pilot group, although I haven't seen it I wouldn't be to shocked if it was true.

    Anyone heard about this or anything to add?

    Republic airlines file federal suit against pilots union

    Three airlines operated by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc. are suing a pilots union over a website they say is damaging their reputation and hindering efforts to hire pilots.

    Chautauqua Airlines Inc., Republic Airline Inc. and Shuttle America Inc. want a federal judge to issue a permanent injunction forcing the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 357 to take the website down.

    The airlines charge in their lawsuit filed Wednesday that the site,, makes several false statements meant to scare away prospective pilots.

    Republic Airways and the union have been locked in contentious contract negotiations since 2007, as pilots continue to work without a new agreement.

    Pilots complain they haven’t had a pay raise in more than four years, and they want better scheduling and seniority rights.

    In December 2010, the union withdrew its negotiating proposals and tentative agreements, and negotiations started over again. The airlines and the union have been in mediation under the oversight of the National Mediation Board since June 2011.

    Due to a shortage of pilots, the airlines said in their suit that they’ve recently begun recruiting new ones amid a very competitive market. But the union launched the website in an effort to disrupt the recruiting efforts, the airlines charged.

    “As a result of these inaccurate statements,” the airlines said, “Republic has had an increase in the number of pilots who have not called back for interviews and dropped out of the application process.”

    A spokeswoman for the union said it could not comment on pending litigation.

    The airlines said the website falsely states that in the event of a strike they will fire probationary pilots. The airlines further charge that the union is issuing a veiled threat to prospective pilots by stating on the site that accepting jobs with the airlines would undermine the union’s efforts to disrupt their operations.

    “Pilots who read this will reasonably conclude that the union may retaliate against them if they accept employment with plaintiffs,” the airlines’ complaint said.

    They said it takes about three months to recruit and train a pilot. If the airlines are unable to recruit enough pilots now, they argued, service will be interrupted.

    The airlines charge that the union is violating state and federal labor laws, and also allege that it is committing breach of contract and defamation.

    In addition to the injunction, they seek monetary damages.

    I don't understand this part. What exactly is happening?

    You can't arbitrarily change the terms of the contract without the consent of both parties. It's odd to think the union has to fight a unilateral pay increase, but they have a case since management imposed it without following the proper steps to amend the contract.

    A change in pay is grounds for a major dispute and is something the union can strike over provided they are released to self help.

    Those pay increases, for RAH FO's, have been withdrawn. It will be interesting to see what happens with their mid April meetings.......RAH contract instability for now will probably prevent them from earning any future flying with eagle.

    I believe the pay raise was for new hires only not the entire pilot group. Seems the pilots are hitting them where it hurts, wonder if we could pull together if we needed to?

    The increase was for all FO's.

    Here's the proposed pay scale from the company. Starting with first year. 30, 34, 37, 39, 40, 41, 42. Seems like their trying to sway some votes. This is coming from the IBT.

    Still pathetic for the equipment they fly, and it's even worse that the company tried to unilaterally impose those wages without any collective bargaining.

    Ouch for all FO's then. Sounds like they were trying to buy votes to me also

    I thought that they would have to be released to self help regardless of the company's actions. Sounds like someone could be going to jail if they walk 4/1. I wish them the best of luck, and that the govt blinks by not forcing the entire pilot group to show up to work.
