There is a culture of politeness with staunch advocates of science and religion tiptoeing around one another to avoid a great clash. To suggest that your belief is right and another's is wrong is considered arrogance of the highest order-yet it is that arrogance and that dogmatism that have driven all scientific and technological progress and, ironically, also launched nearly all of mankind's wars. So let's have at it: the armies of empiricism at the fortress of faith.

Silly isn't it. The difference is that dogmatic belief in evolution is based on evidence. There's massive, great, crashing evidence, whereas the evidence for a "creator" is based on zilch, unless faith should be given as much weight in thought process as evidence.

Religion is tragic because it's such a waste of a good mind. The world is a wonderful place and so is the gift of understanding. Filling children's minds (and creating "blind followers" as adults) with medieval rubbish that gets in the way of true understanding and free thought is genuinely sad and has long term effects.

Minds filleed with false alternatives to what we know to be true is nothing more than a modern form of the inquisition. Accept or suffer? 50% of american voters said to believe in literally in adam & Eve and that the world was created in six days less than ten thousand years ago. Do you see the problem there--dogmatic belief through conditioning.

Clearly that is not only false, it's tragically false because it is a direct result of filling up young minds not just with falsehoods but ludicrous falsehoods that get in the way of the wonder of true understanding.

The only place in the world that equals the US in religious zealotry is the middle east and the only country that reaches blind faith in percentages of population is IRAN.

Religion, creation, and the stupidity of force feeding religion to the general population under the cover of law as the our society is doing now is the mental equivalent of a computer virus of the brain. Karl Marx was only right about one thing: religion is the opiate of the masses.

Professing a belief in religion and "god" is like wearing a stupid sign around your neck.

As one comedian says HERE'S YOUR SIGN:

STUPID

Yeah, boring all right. I fly jets, ride fast motorcycles, bang a new chick every week (and rarely in the missionary position), gamble, drink myself into drunken stupors, brawl, cut off slow drivers in the fast lane, heckle "aggies", eat meat on fridays, go to hockey games, watch porn, masturbate every chance I get (no hair yet), and guess what:

When I wake up and see some hot score sleeping next to me, a big grin washes across my face as I think about who's going to be there tomorrrow, or next week, or whenever.

I guess plain and boring is in the eye of the beholder.

Maybe I'll have my next score slap me on the a$$ with a bible---maybe she can beat "god" into me. Yeah, that's what I'll do.

Give me a friggin break. Plain and boring. Yeah right.

This was a real conversation between the CA and the FA over the intercom during a recent flight. The FA has tattoos, and wants more, and is religious, as is the CA...

CA: Jesus will cry if you get more tattoos.
FA: It's not a sin, there's nothing in the bible against it, I looked!
ME: Uh, I think at press time there were no such things as tattoos...
FA: I know, but God knows everything, and knew there would be tattoos in the future, and if He thought it would be a sin, it would be say so!

I knew I should have just turned off my intercom button when it all started.

McPickle: Just when I thought you could not say anything more ridiculous, you go and make posts like those....
...And TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!

Scab hater, you're my hero.

It's all just different interpretations. The foundations are quite different? In the details but you are missing the bigger picture. Time to go back to school?
Thanks for the review. I am well aware of all that you wrote. It is precisely the details that are important, like the detail about Christ. If it was as simple as the big picture as you imply, then there would not be such a huge divide between the two cultures and religions.

I think my level of education on the subject is sufficient for this discussion. Thanks for your concern though.

Well, it's not about forcing anyone's beliefs on anyone. There's truth and non-truth. There is a God, He did send His Son to die on the cross for the world's sins, and everyone is free to either believe that or not. On judgement day, everyone will be accountable for himself. God gives us all freewill, and people can use it to believe Him and in His plan for the salvation of mankind or not.

As for those who keep bringing up all the killing in the name of religion, yes it's sad. There has been alot of killing and it continues today. This isn't what Jesus wanted, and He sure didn't teach that. There are many who slam the Word of God (the bible), but most have never even read it.

What is mindblowing for me is that many people would rather believe that the earth, solar system, and the universe for that matter formed by pure random chance. That all living things on the earth formed by pure chance and luck, and that we evolved from single cell creatures up through ape-like creatures to what we are today. Have you any idea how complex the human body is?! Random chance? Yeah right. Would you believe that given 10 million, heck I'll give you a billion years, that a 747 could form on it's own in a field? Sounds absurd, right? The human body is a million times more complex.

Many people believe in things like carbon dating, yet know nothing about it or how it works. They are more willing to believe some scientist or group of scientists who will tell them that world is such and such years old. Many are willing to take on faith that the scientists know what they're doing and are willing to just believe them (Oh, they're scientists. They must know what they're doing). Have you personally run lab tests on anything? Do you know for sure that what you read in National Geographic is correct? Yet, I am stupid and naive for believing in the Word of God.

God, for His reasons, chose faith (believing without seeing the tangible) to be what pleases Him. The bible says that God chose the foolish things of this world, so that no flesh would glory in His presence. That makes sense to me... so no one can walk before God and boast how great they are based on heavenly principles. So you want tangible proof? The bible says that the world around you should be enough (the sky, the oceans, the stars, sun, moon, etc.) to know that this all couldn't have happened all by random chance.

For those who don't believe in God, I would ask you this. If anyone comes up to you and starts talking about God, why do you get so upset? If you're so sure that their isn't a God, why get so angry about it. Us believers are just ignorant idiots, right? Why not just roll your eyes and walk away? Maybe there's something deep down inside of you trying to tell you something. The bible says that "every knee will bow" and that no one will have an excuse on judgement day. I talk about judgement day. If you're so sure there isn't a god... why get upset that I'm "pushing" my beliefs on you. Just laugh and walk away.

"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools." Romans 1:20-22

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." Psalm 14:1

"For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." Romans 14:11,12

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.' Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe... Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God stronger than men... But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
... That no flesh should glory in his presence." 1 Corinthians 1:18-21, 25, 27, 29.

The choice is yours. There's no "pushing" anything on you. Don't get mad at the messenger, if the above makes you angry, your issue is with God.

If you don't believe in God, and are so sure He doesn't exist, what are you getting upset or worried about? Just click the back button and move on.
