again, NO!! What kind of god do you actually believe in?

I understand what you are saying (and I havent read the last 1000000 pages) and I hope no one says or said, that they are any wiser, or "enlightened" or more "spiritual" than anyone else. This thread should be to educate each other in the other persons views; and to properly debate the existence or non-existence of God. Not belittle someone simply for their status/career in life. Those who boast about their "so-called status", is a pathetic piece of crap.

Got a question. how many of you who believe in god believe in "fate," "gods' plan" or the "meant to be" philosophy? I am curious because, despite what one chooses to believe about god on their own time, this belief seems to be quite detramental to the real world. Example: you are in a relationship, and the other person makes the comment, "if it is meant to be, we will stay together," or you have a mesa airline interview and you think to yourself, "if I get the job, it was meant to be, and if I don't, then well, God must have other plans for me." Of all the things that come from a belief in an all mighty, this line of thinking kills me. Ever think that the reason the relationship didn't work out is because you didn't try hard enough, couldn't learn to communicate well/etc.......or the reason you didn't get the job (or did) is because you aren't good enough/not a people person/don't have the qualifications/etc. Of the people I have heard say this kind of stuff, the only thing I ever walk away thinking is, what an amazing ability that person has for not taking any responsibility for anything in their lives. God has a plan.......BS! Carpe f*ckin diem. I know it may seem easier to believe that there is a higher power guiding your every choice, and that the consequence is not really your fault. Let me guess, if something good happens, you were blessed, and if something bad happens, well- god has a plan and we shouldn't question it. Every choice we make in our lives is exactly that; our choice. Nothing out there helps guide you in the right direction. (and if I am wrong, I need to have a sit-down with zeus about why he decided to make that cute little puppy run across the street and get run over and killed by a family in front of a church last week. Must be a pretty messed up plan he has...)
If the believers in god can't seem to understand the athiest, at least understand that we are forced to take full responsibility for our lives, and to do good for the sake of doing good and not for the fear of eternal damnation. that, and we like to sleep in on sundays.......

UNI-VERSE: contracted latin word for "one spoken sentence" it also translates into everything turning as one or one full turn. ( Genisis 1:3 - God said "Let there be...and it was so".
COSMOS: translated means the order. The order of God's work took seven days. Can also be translated to mean reflecting the concept of contemplating the divine organisation (Cosmos) of the nature
CARBON DATING: please see and read Doesn’t Carbon-14 Dating Disprove the Bible? - Answers in Genesis .

My logic and knowledge have given me enough common sense to know the truth. I know where my faith will remain, and that is with Jehovah.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine". (REVELATION 6:6)

"For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God". (ROMANS 14:11)

There's not? Well, I can't argue that! Since it was predicted in a book, it must come true! Oh wait... people have been making that claim for ages... and we're still here. Huh.

Geee, if that there done be the origin of the words, then it done must be true! It's all so clear to me now. If it's latin, well then, who are we to argue?

It's hilarious in the context of this thread. But the reality of it is quite sad... so many wars and deaths have been caused by that exact sentiment...

At best, it's pseudo-science, and at worst (which is often the case), it's just misleading, mis-informed, drivel. They make the claim that modern Homo Sapiens lived at the same time as the dinosaurs (that Creation "Museum" that they opened even has a display showing man riding a dinosaur)... which of course was less than 6000 years ago. C'mon, really??

This is taken from the link you provided:
Carbon-14 (14C), also referred to as radiocarbon, is claimed to be a reliable dating method for determining the age of fossils up to 50,000 to 60,000 years. If this claim is true, the biblical account of a young earth (about 6,000 years) is in question, since 14C dates of tens of thousands of years are common.1

When a scientist’s interpretation of data does not match the clear meaning of the text in the Bible, we should never reinterpret the Bible.

The first paragraph is logical, and even leads to a good point - the biblical account of a young earth is in question. But it's the stubborn, close-minded refusal to even think about accepting that conclusion that gets me. That's the complete opposite of the objectivity of science.

Why can't these people accept change? Hell, even the last pope (JPII) admitted evolution is an accepted theory, and can be compatible with Christianity:

Today, almost half a century after the publication of the encyclical, new knowledge has led to the recognition of the theory of evolution as more than a hypothesis. It is indeed remarkable that this theory has been progressively accepted by researchers, following a series of discoveries in various fields of knowledge. The convergence, neither sought nor fabricated, of the results of work that was conducted independently is in itself a significant argument in favor of this theory. (taken from CATHOLIC LIBRARY: Truth Cannot Contradict Truth (1996) )

My thoughts on the ability to be open-minded to change can be summed up as thus:

It's beneficial for society to study the past... but detrimental to live in it.
