Question broke hand, what next?

Looking fore a little info from you guys out there. I Broke my hand, and am on some pain meds. who do i call to get an extended sick call? Scheduling, chief pilot? Once I am off the meds - does the company allow you to fly with a cast, or do you have to wait until its off? Im sure the pax dont want to see a pilot with a cast, any info is great.

Contact the CPO and you can be placed on sick leave for as long as you need. It will only be recorded as one attendance event. After all sick time has been used you can go on FMLA. If it is determined that you can not perform your duties as a pilot you can receive LTD payments (I am assuming you carry the LTD coverage). LTD payments are also tax free. Your ALPA rep. can help you in the right direction if you need to progress further than just using sick time.

There's a group of fellow pilots that volunteer their spare time to help people like you....

It's called the ALPA Aeromedical Committee.... Your union dues makes this possible....

Call me..

Pete Boilard
508-740-4160

If I don't pick up right away, I have 3 Canadian overnights this week... Will Call Back ASAP

BS....contact aeromedical for the contact information if you need it, but go on FMLA now.....you can use your sick leave if you choose, but it won't count as an occurrence. You do NOT have to use all your sick leave first. Eidson.....stop giving erroneous information.

Thumbs up

I will refer you back to Pete Boilard's post. CALL HIM. Do not try to figure all this out yourself. Call the guy that is trained to help you. I have been on med leave for 6 months now do to an injury. There are many resources out there to help you through this, but you have to do the right steps in the right order. All in all I have had a good experiance with our benifits people, so you shouldn't have to much problem.

The most important line in this post:

CALL PETE, let him help you...

Good Luck

I have gone through this whole process personally with a broken leg last year. Try to utilize your reading skills and notice I said call ALPA. The short term solution to not going to work is to call in sick. The SKLV can later be changed to FMLA after it has been approved. You can not just call up scheduling or the CPO and say "I am going on FMLA."
