The short term solution to not going to work is to call in sick. The SKLV can later be changed to FMLA after it has been approved. You can not just call up scheduling or the CPO and say "I am going on FMLA."
I didn't have a problem with that, and I am pretty sure he already knew that. I had a problem with the statement you made that he had to use all his sick time up first and THEN go on FMLA. That's just wrong.

Thanks for reminding me of my name though.

Using the sick time is to get paid. I like to get paid. FMLA is unpaid. Whatever though, we at least agree the guy should call ALPA. And I'm not 100% sure but if I remember right the LTD people made me use all sick time before receiving the LTD payments. Yes, I suppose if one has no interest in getting paid then just straight FMLA will work.

Maybe you didn't say what you meant in the first post. What you said was that he had to use all his sick time BEFORE he could use FMLA. That is what I objected to. Of course he can (and should) use sick time in conjunction with FMLA to get paid. In your last post you changed it to using all your sick time before LTD. THAT statement is correct. So, if that is what you really meant in the first post, then we agree afterall.

Bottom line though, as someone already said, is to call Pete.

Default Broken Hand - Enjoy the vacation

FMLA - Can be done with out pay but you will continue to have MEDICAL COVERAGE in your insurance (will ahve to pay out of your pocket) the Benefits center will bill you directly. Have the option to collect all sick time and vacation pay.
MEDICAL LEAVE - if no pay = no MEDICAL COVERAGE (no benefits) must use cobra at full rate. Save the sick time for this and the vacation pay when forced to use it. if you collect a pay check for half the month, the medical coverage will cover you to the end of the month.
LTD - Will pay 55% of you salary rate at 85 hr per month if approved. To collect, all sick time and vacation must be paid
CAST in HAND = no flying as you can not comply with your medical. If your doctor has put any restrictions to your activity or use of the hand, no luck, can't got work.

Call ALPA!! Call the REED group for the FMLA. Call the CPO to tell them about FMLA. Call Payroll if you want to do the FMLA at not pay. FMLA in HR specialists is Enid Gutierrez.

I believe you can use all your sick time THEN use your FMLA entitlement if that is what you want to do. I don't think that was erroneous information.

Well I am irritated at myself for even responding to an anonymous keyboard warrior but here goes.

Why? This is not what ALPA recommends.

Reference: ALPA Legal:

C - Your Group Insurance

When you run out of sick pay and vacation pay, your CPO will put you on leave of absence. The initial leave is normally Family Medical Leave for the first 90 days.

This clearly states you go on leave (FMLA) after you have used all of your sick pay and vacation pay.

No it's not. This is exactly what ALPA recommends. Reference above taken directly from ALPA legal.

Object all you want. A pilot is not required (I don't think) to use all sick time before FMLA but it is what is recommended.

If you're going to come on here and act all holier than thou like you do when you play grammar cop A) At least have your sh!t straight before you call me out and B) Man up and sign your name. My intent was only to try to help the guy out. If I am wrong (and I am a lot) about something well woops. Like I said I was just trying to help the guy and of course in my first post said a call to ALPA would be in order.
