Default Gate Numbering at IAH Terminal B

So why do the gates in terminal B start at 60-something and have B versions in seemingly random spots? Sure the B's probably came about when the RJ's started using the jetways and they could squeeze a few more in but would it really be that much more trouble to re-name them all in a logical way? Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I had to ask.

Dude...this exact topic came up on my last two pairings....

Like B-1 thru whatever would "not make sense".....so they decided to start with 60....

Musta been either a Municipal Beauraucrat of someone in Upper Managment.

Prior to Term E, there was D-1 through D-12, C-14 through c-48 and then the B gates starting at 60. Everything was numbered somewhat numerically. Now, it doesn't make us much sense, but even if you don't through the letter in front on the B term, everyone knows where you are.

yeah that's a good point.....makes the B a little unnecessary but I usually still say it at IAH. I rarely say C112B or whatever it's supposed to be when I go to EWR though, just 112B. I must have some aversion to using more than four numerals in a gate name.

B1 through B14 (I think it was 14) used to be prop gates. The 1900's parked on 1 - 4.5, the 120's used 8 & 9, the ATR's used 5,6,7, 10-14...or some rendition of that...

The good ole days...

And when will guys in IAH learn that the ramp controllers in CLE and EWR could care less which fix you are flying over? At both airports you taxi out towards the runways in the same direction as other traffic.

Actually, it's helpful to tell EWR ramp your departure fix. They (sometimes) are aware of stopped fixes or fixes eligible for runway 11/29. Or don't tell 'em, you'll find out when you call ground or flow.
