Default Looking to make the switch and have some questions

I am at TSA and while I enjoy going to work to fly, I hate that I never know what is going to happen and all the bitching and moaning about things, while nobody ever seems to want to do anything to fix things, so I am thinking I am going to jump ship. I have been here since January and have been a line holder for 2 months, it is pretty nice, but I made the same money on reserve and worked less. I do live in STL so that is why the job is not too bad. What is the time frame for reserve in IAH(probably my first choice)? How are bases assigned in class, age, SSN? I am planning on staying in STL and getting a crash pad where ever I go and I dont think the commute would be to bad to IAH. What is the schedule like on reserve, 6 on 1 off? Does it look like hiring will continue at its current high rate? Are lots of people leaving for majors? Sorry, I have lots of questions. I am not worried about the interview or training, just QOL right now and enjoying my job a bit more. Thanks for all the insight.

Reserve right now for IAH is about 3 months since it's the summer season, though I've talked to other's who came online in February and it only took them about 5 months. But of course, this is only becuase so many people have been hired/are being hired this year. Bases are assigned in class based on your seniority number which is based on your age. While you're on reserve the schedules are different for everyone. You're guaranteed 11 days off in months with 30 days or less and 12 days off with months that have 31 day. This month my schedule is 5 on, 2 off and 4 on, 3 off. A lot of people are still leaving/looking for other companies to work for but I think most people are waiting around to see what happens later this year to see who we'll be flying for and where our new base(s) will be before they decide to leave. As for me, I commute from ATL to IAH and it definitely sucks having to commute and sit reserve, but from EVERYONE I've talked to that has a line they say it's like night and day trying to compare the two schedules. I know of one guy who flys 95-100 hours a month since he's still on first year pay and he still has more days off than me. Good luck with your decision though.

I made the move here after 2plus years at PSA. I love it here. Much better than the US Airways system. You will love it. I talked to a guy the other day who came here from TSA after getting furloughed and he is very happy so far.

I commute out of STL about half the time... STL is a tough commute with lots of commuters and bad gate agents. Be careful.

Ya I had 3 of the furlough's in my interview group. Sounds like a lot of you are think of XJT.
I am moving from the Hawaiian islands and was going to move with buddies in STL... that may not be a good idea with all the commuters eh?

I think there is only one CLE commuter left, maybe two... A lot of CAL FA's go to Newark and a few other guys. IAH is tough as the loads are the highest, there are a few call guys and a bunch of Express guys and as I said before the gate agents are horrible. I've had talks with Steve and Bosh about some problems I've had there and I think it will get better but be careful.

Well I am now officially trying to make the switch. I was just furloughed from TSA so that made my decision that much easier. I have a friend walking in a resume for me and he said that he was about 99% sure I would get hired since im already typed in the 145.

You shouldnt have a problem. They have been scooping up us TSA furloughees quite quickly. I bet over half of the initial 20 are in class or have a class within the next 3 weeks. Good luck. See ya soon.
