Default For new hires: some information on pay and paydates

I wanted to post this for all the new hires to see since every couple of months on here there always seems to be a question of how and when pilots are paid. CAL payroll is different from ExpressJet and their pay starts with an advance for the month. Our company pays based on work already performed. So...

On the 1st of every month (unless the first is a holiday or falls on a weekend at which point it will be the business day preceeding this date), a pilot is paid 37.5 hours, or half his guarantee, for the preceeding two weeks. This covers pay from the 16th to the 30th/31st of the previous month.

On the 16th of each month (again unless a weekend or holiday), a pilot is paid the remaining 37.5 hours of his/her guarantee for the 1st through the 15th, plus all overtime, extra pay and perdiem from the previous month. This makes the second check of the month your biggest paycheck.

Hope that helps for anyone who might have a question on this. Like I said it seems to come up on the boards every couple of months or so and new hires seem to ask me that question when I fly with them.

Moderator: Can we make it a sticky for new hires to reference?

How realistic is overtime at Coex? Is it avaliable if a newhire is willing to take an extra trip - or anybody for that matter?

if you want to work it.....you can have it. If you are a linrholder, of course. There's usually many hours of open time in the month and if you get creative or live in the base, there's plenty there.

but why would you want to work more?

Merry Christmas...

Do you all get 150% pay for picking up open time?

Only trips that are "red flagged" by the company.

The reason I ask is, the first year would be nice to pick up open time to help the paycheck.

Dude - You're not even hired yet, but you're asking all these questions like you've been around for years. Upgrade times, Pay rates, How to commute. No one can guess what upgrade times will be for ANY airline. There's too much uncertainty.

If you ask as many questions in the interview and/or ground school as you do here, they are going to make it very tough on you.

Yes you can commute from anywhere. You will upgrade for captain when your seniorty number comes up. You will get hired when you get an interview and know your stuff. There's no secret hand shake or good boys club.

Hey man,
I just asked a few simple questions about QOL at the company, commuting, etc.... Isn't what this board is for? I'd definately like to know as much as possible about a company that I am really interested in before I leave my current position......

As a flight instructor? Hmmm. . . a tough choice made more difficult by this revenue environment. Perhaps you should stick it out at Uncle Bobo's Air Taxi and Instruction Unlimited. Good to see you're thinking about your career. Don't let these short sighted assholes bother you.
