Default training/travel?

Hi. First post by the way. I know that training is approx 45-50 days, 5 days a week and then the weekend off. Is it possible to commute back home on the weekends? Does the company give you non rev passes? The two main reasons I ask is that I have only been married for 8 months and being gone for 9 -10 weeks would suck. Second, my grandfather (80 years old) is barely hanging on. We are really tight so I would like to come and see him. If there is any there info that people could share about training would be great. Well, back to studying for tuesday.
Thanks.

Yes, you can head home on the weekends (or weekdays, if you have any off). You will set it up with the training travel dept - they'll give you the phone number, or you can fill out a form they have in the training center. I would recommend going home when you have the chance, too. I was in a similar situation with the new wife (no grandfather problems - sorry about that), and it definitely made the whole process easier by way of morale boosting. And if you are flying back and forth from the NW (guessing by your screen name), that will give you plenty of time on the flights to study. I was going back and forth from PDX, and on those longish flights I got more quality studying done at FL 360 (or whatever) than in the Holiday Inn. SEA and PDX are usually pretty full routes (if you are indeed using either of these...), but during training you get positive space travel, so enjoy it while you can (even first class sometimes)!

Good luck,
Fats

As Fats mentioned above, during training you get Positive space travel home to/from training. (Which means you WILL get back to IAH from home, maybe on the last flight of the day though). I flew home to FL 4 times, got upgraded twice to First Class, never any problems. Half of the class flew home on our days off. Oh, days off can be any day during the week, not just Weekends. Our class was off Sat./Sun. twice, Mon/Tue., and Mon/Tue/Wed. during ground school.

Not only are you postive spaced (which means you are put ahead of anyone commuting or traveling for fun - they're Space Available), but if it gets down to the last flight of the day going home, or coming back to training, you can declare yourself a must ride; then you'll even bump revenue! Be prepared for dirty looks though if it comes to that.

Do you only get benefits to one airport during training? Home is NC, but I need to pick my car up from San Diego. Will they give me the benefits to other places?

Also, will XJT give you a non rev pass to get you intially into IAH for training from what ever airport you choose?

you can go to/from any airport.

re training yes...and the good thing is it's positive-space so you'll
have a high chance of getting on.
