Default Sim partners

Anybody know if new hires are getting paired up with those in upgrade training?

From what I was told in the interview, new hire First Officers will be paired with other new hire First Officers. You'll be with your classmates and from what I understand, you can pick your own sim partner.

When picking your sim partner, I would suggest that you pair up with your roommate. That way you both have the same schedule. Otherwise you might be trying to get some sleep while your roommate is just coming in or going out. It is also easier to study this way and review your flows and callouts. It will help you in the FTD's and sims if you have a good team approach. I had a good partner and this worked for us. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. What if I am more senior and get to pick a better schedule than what my roomate might get?

You don't choose a training schedule. You pick a partner first and then they are assigned to you. Seniority means nothing when it comes to what sim block you get.

Other than the great benefit of some extra numbers below you what else does seniority in class get you? I thought it did impact time slot selection. I believe I asked Dawn Daniel this.

I need reasons to celebrate my old age!

Thanks!

Better odds of getting the base you bid for. Thats probably the biggest thing. Other than that, its not really that big of a deal.

Once you get on line, it could mean more time on reserve. In my class I was #2 in seniority and I was the last one to get a relief line. Everyone else had to sit reserve for another month. The next month everyone in our class got a line.

You get to pick your sim partner during basic indoc. Like previously suggested, your roommate is the logical choice. That way, if you get the 0100 to 0800 sim, your on the same clock. During your LOFT ride, your paired up with a Captain upgrade.
I was the old man of my class and the only preferential treatment I got was getting to the head of the line on uniform size-up day.
As for base assignments, my whole class was shipped to Cleveland. A class two weeks behind us all got IAH. We were also told we'll get our first choice base approx 2 months after IOE. (we'll see...)

Not necessarily true. Some do. But, my sim partner and I happened to be paired with the #1 on the company seniority list (retired but still doing things such as LOFT, etc.) But, others do get paired with a CA in upgrade, just depends.
