Default Newbie Domiciles

I am considering ExpressJet but am concerned with where I will be based initially. I am 24 and live in Denver, and am going to TRY to commute. I know I would be low on the totem pole but where is the most junior base? And how easy would it be to commute from Denver in the first year?

Yeah...probably EWR or CLE will be your starting point. All I can say is lotsa luck with a commute out of DEN. There are A LOT of senior CAL folks commuting out of there and loads are pretty tough to commute on, though most of those folks are coming here to IAH; CLE and EWR might not be that bad. I just looked at the CLE and EWR loads for Thursday and it's pretty light.

Follow your dreams dude!! I did and now I'm in Shangri La!!

What is the wait to move from CLE or EWR to IAH? I live in SHV and IAH would be great ( I know I'm not getting it out of training, tho)

I had a buddy start class Aug 1. He is getting base advanced on Feb. 1st of next year from CLE to IAH on the latest perm bid. So it looks like about 4-5 months after finishing IOE before being base advanced on a perm bid. You can always try to base trade if you don't get IAH right off the bat.

Word of advice though...from my personal experience, I found that flying winter ops out of EWR right after getting hired was GREAT experience. Don't be in such a hurry to be in IAH just because it's close to home. The flying out of CLE or EWR will be some of the best training you'll ever get. Yes...I hated commuting and crashpadding, but I wouldn't trade the 10 weeks in EWR for anything. Just my humble opinion.

Just a follow up,

In initial training, am I able to bid for which domicile I want, say CLE for example? Or is it just assigned based on age or some other criteria?

What equipment does Express Jet fly from CLE? How about EWR?

CLE is the EMB170 base and EWR is the EMB190 base. Just hope you don't get stuck in IAH because you'll be stuck on the EMB145 indefinately.

thecashmoney has been drinking too much.

You'll fly 145's and 135's no matter where you're based. Picking your first domocile is based off seniority of the class starting at the oldest and going down. My class had 10 EWR openings and 22 CLE. Manpower planning will give out a sheet to put down your preferences and then awards are based on age and where the current need is. Hope that helps.
