Any suggestions or advice for class?

Default Any suggestions or advice for class?

I am starting class on Nov 1 and this is my first 121 class. All I have done in my short flying career is flight instruction, and now that I have this opportunity I am extremely excited, motivated, and frightened. I have all the confidence that I will be able to make it through this training(maybe with a little xtra help if needed) but there are always posts about washout rates, and you always hear some stories of people washing out. I don't want to be one of those people. I have already memorized the flows and limitations, and practice them at least once a day. Is this enough, or do I need to do more? Does anyone have any advice for a newbie going into his first 121 class? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks to all. :?

This company appreciates and works with people with good attitudes who try their best. That's all you have to do. I'll bet many of the washouts failed to apply themselves 100% and spent too much time partying with their classmates. Don't freak out - many pilots here came into this with the same experience as you....our training syllabus and instructors are excellent. You'll get through it as long as you give it your undivided attention and 100% effort. Save the partying till you're done with IOE.

turn and run! you have just signed yourself up for the most frustrating and idiotic career ever! you will work long hours, be far away from your family, have enormous responsibility for low pay, low respect, and did i mention low pay!

oh wait, the plus side! you get to fly. which most of your co-workers think is enough. why actually get paid for it when mgmt is nice enough to let you fly jets??? woohoo!

F THAT YOU PANSY!! You CAN party in class. Don't be afraid to have a good time but save it for weekends. Don't be afraid to say hello to the new FA's. They are here for the sole purpose of having a good time and meeting men....hint hint!

You have done all you can, you know your limitations, know your flows, if you have the memory items for emergencies learn those rote.

This company already knows that a lot of the new hires are in their first 121 environment and teach the class accordingly. There are PLENTY of idiots who have made it through that shouldn't have. Steve Kessinger has a pretty good study guide that covers a lot of the systems stuff, but I don't know how to find him since we've all gone back to handles. Good luck and Welcome!

You already memorized the flows and limitations?!? Geez, kick back a bit. Is training handing out the materials before you show up to class? I went in cold ( few years ago now), but this wasn't my first rodeo. If you put forth a moderate effort you will do more than fine. The training department does a fantastic job. Once you are in the classroom you will see what is truly required for YOU to be succcessful and can plan your study habits accordingly. Take it seriously, BUT at the same time don't be the dork sitting in the hotel lobby flipping flashcards all the time. Have fun!

Having just taken the systems final last Friday, I can tell you that there is enough time to relax and have fun. Just make sure you know when it is time for what. They told us during indoc. that the washout rate is very low. Since the hiring began at the beginning of this year, there have been less than 20 people not finish training. A handful of those were self-selected. Meaning that they decided that they couldn't do it and quit. There were a few that partied their way right back home, though. Just know when to study and when you can let your hair down and you'll be alright.
