Advice for the "training" center:
Don't believe everything you hear in those classes. Many "instructors" there have little or no line experience but spout all kinds of useless information about the alpha and gamma modes of the flight director.
Yeah, I don't know alpha and gamma modes are either!
Examples:
The guy who "taught" our systems ground school. During the powerplant day he said the "engine has a 5:1 bypass ratio" which means "5% of the air....". And of course most people in the class were feverishly copying his word for word as if it was gospel, without actually thinking about what he said. The instructor's reply? "Well that (80%) is what I meant!
The guy who basically just operated the FTD who told me that "nobody uses FLC in a descent". Of course he had no good reason why; that is just what somebody else told him!
Just make sure you listen and question. I would highly recommend anyone to get prepared prior to arriving at class, if possible.
I apologize for the rant.
Good luck in training and welcome!
