The contract does say for "out of domicile" reserve assignments that CS will provide you with confirmation codes for both DHs, front and back end. But I've had a few of these (SAT based, get sent to IAH or other Coex base), and they still pull the "we can't give you the last day's one until midnight the night before", because they say it'll probably change before then anyway. So watch them on that one, too.

Not trying to sound too harsh, but there's no excuse for showing up to a deadhead without your boarding pass in hand. In my opinion it should be a missed trip.

why? If I'm not listed I'll never jumpseat. I've had a flight push without me since scheduling booked me a paper ticket instead of an e-ticket. The agents would not let me on.
If I'm not booked, I better call to make sure they didn't CX it and have other plans right?
Not to sound harsh, but you could receive an out of position if you just get on without CS booking you. Something to think about goxc.

Are you a reserve yourself? Or a lineholder who seldom deadheads?
So is it the reserves responsibility to get himself listed? As a reserve I deadhead often, typically with short notice, and end up missing a few because the flight is full and CS failed to list me. Exactly how is this my fault? If we could list ourselves positive space I would agree with you, but since we are not empowered as such I disagree with you-it's my responsibility to be at the gate on time for the DHD, it's the responsibility of CS to ensure I am listed for that flight.

Right now I am a line holder, but I remember reserve very well. Even line holders are not listed for deadheads sometimes. I personally do think that it is the pilots responsibility to make sure he is listed and checked in for the flight. Like you said you are required to be at the gate at the time of the DHD, but shouldn't you also have your boarding pass? Within 24 hours I check sonic for my locator and if I am not listed I will immediately call CS. 99% of the time they will list me right there, one time I had to wait until 2359 and call back.

Have you tried to call Crew Scheduling lately.... I just had a complete post on how well that works.
That said I had one DH that I called 24 hours out for the record locator and was correctly instructed to call back after midnight.
I called back and advised them that the locator was giving an error on Continental.com, stating it was a "reservation", not a ticket. I was assured that by early morning it would be corrected.
At the gate I was told that my "locator" was a paper ticket, and immediately called SOCC..... I made show time, and did not see my name on the non rev list, and made another call to Crew Scheduling, assured once again that I had a seat. so, once boarding began, I asked the gate agent if I could have a boarding pass..... and made my 4th call to SOCC, during the 20 minute hold I watched the jet depart without me. The agent even listed me for the jumpseat (on her own), which I requested she cancel out.... despite seats being available in the cabin.
As you say, had I boarded the flight I might have been out of position and/or re-crewed to a higher priority flight for my RA day.

Sounds like a complete mess. I had to deal with something like that with TDY deadheads last year. As long as someone is doing all he can to get listed and checked in the night/morning before I have no problem with that. Sometimes CS makes it a lot harder than it should be. I have a problem with the people who just show up and assume they'll be listed and try to check in at the gate or even at the airport 45 minutes before the flight leaves (if there are such people).

Well let's just agree to disagree. Immediately calling CS is a good idea, but does not mean you will immediately get through, I actually do call, but refuse to spend an hour on hold when I have to get up in five hours. The way I see it, they screwed up and I am trying to bring it to their attention, but they won't answer the phone to let me do that.

lol.....2 Captains arguing in the "new hire" section. Not that either of you care, but I agree with Paul on this one.
