I would say that with CAL, Delta, and United stopping their new hire classes, our attrition rate is going to go way down. Don't be surprised if our new hire classes are delayed even further because of this.

I was in the training center last week and was told by PS that we have 2882 pilots on staff currently and want to lose another 300 pilots through attrition. He is not expecting any new hire classes through the rest of 2008. In addition there may be 50 or so upgrades through the rest of 2008. With CAL cutting way back on flying and Delta reducing flying as well we are trying to shrink as a pilot group to 2500 pilots. Good luck looking else were, my personal guess is maybe classes in June 2009. That is if we don't take further hits to our CAL flying and Branded is not grounded this summer do to high fuel cost.

Well we had block hours reduced the last two months, but they added 2 more jets. Branded has a fuel hedge so I wouldn't worry about that until next summer.

Just finished my rip-snorting recurrect yesterday and I was told no new hire classes for the rest of the year. Subject to change of course, but the way things are with the oil prices, I doubt it will change.

There are TWO and TWO only new-hire classes scheduled as PLACE HOLDER only for the remainder of the year. They are listed for September.

This means they are on the books but may or may not occur. We are still over-staffed. The whole summer class rumor is a terrible one.

According to PS we are at 2882 pilots and we want to be at about 2500, so guess those classes are only happening if attrition continues at 40 a month? We will know if a few days but I have noticed a severe reduction in "I am moving on" threads this month.

Guardguy-Thanks for the updates man. Seems that you live at the training center! It wouldn't suprise me if the pool numbers are down to below 20!...then again I don't know. I checked in with Angela last week, and was told that those who are still in the pool will be called when/if a firm class date is scheduled, so those who interviewed in 2007 like myself are still in the pool, unless you notifed her otherwise.

On another note, how would a possible sale to Skywest affect hiring...? Are people thinking that XJT would operate the same way that ASA does now?

I would think that it would have to, at least until our contract runs out. I maybee wrong, but that is my guess.
