Default FNG Reserve Questions

Can an FNG pick up trips during their 4 moving days off? If so, can they pick up a 4 day trip on day 2 of the days off?

Can a reserve pilot pick up trips on their days off? For example: 3 days off and want to pick up a 2 day?

If you really want to fly and pick up trips, is it better to bid long-call or short-call?

And yes, the contract and other posts are helpful, but they're not quite answering my questions.

You have 12 days off on reserve. Picking up trips on a day off would lower you below our contractual minimum.

Welcome to ExpressJet. Please don't violate the contract. People worked hard to get it the way is and by you working on your days off (as a reserve) you do the following:

Keep another reserve from flying during his/her reserve days
Violate the contract.

Umm, the trip I'm looking at has a personal note on it asking if anyone wants it to please take it plus it is over a holiday that most folks usually like to have off.

BTW, the contract seems to read that a pilot that wants to fly their tailfeathers off can while a pilot that doesn't want to fly as much also, can.

A reserve pilot cannot pick up advertised trips. the only way you can 'pick up' a trip is to request one in open time during the APW, and if a line holder doesn't take it during the specific time frame, it's yours.

A reserve pilot can not(i.e. never) pick up trips on days off. 12(11) off days are a contract minimum however you can waive just about any part of the contract. As long as you stay legal per the FAR's. Line holders who pick up trips on days off routinely go below 12 days off, thats their choice. They can also waive in domicile rest to be able to pick up on days off.

Basically the reason you can not pick up on days off while on reserve is that the company has no clue how much they are going to need you to fly in the month, they do however plan that you will be available for your 4 or 5 day blocks. If you fly 15 hours in your three days off prior to a 4 day block of reserve you a.)cant legally fly your 4th day due to 24/7 issues b.)may run into 30/7 issues c.)may break 100/month. There are many other reasons, but those are just a few.

Just to clarify your moving days start after your IOE ends. They don't drop a trip or show up on your schedule like normal MVD's.

You have 120 days to do that. If you aren't close with 10 days left they will build you a line. Relax, you won't be upgrading to captain soon, so why not enjoy your free time?
