Default Possibility of an Internship

Well I know it's a ways away, but I'm looking into the possibility of an internship at ExpressJet for this Summer of 2008. I'm a freshman down here at ERAU but will have my Commercial-Multi by the end of the Fall semester. ExpressJet had a very positive effect on me at the career expo last weekend and I wrote down my information for someone to contact me. I also have a former CFI who is based out of LAX for XJet and he loves it so far. Other locations I'm planning on looking at in the future at Skywest and Cape Air (I've been an employee there in PVD for the past 2 summers).

Let me know what you think.

You would be better off interning at a major. Most of the benefits we had as an intern are now gone(jump seating, traveling international, using the sim, etc...)

p.m. me if you have any q's

I interned here and had a great time with it. I would however not do it again, at least not at a regional level. Shoot for a major or better yet UPS or SWA they pay you and once hired you have a better shot at making bigger money. Regionals are very easy to get hired at now you don't need an internship. Its was a great experience for me jump seating around but i heard that's not available anymore either.

Be smart...if the industry tanks the regional will be the first to rehire.

I read an article in the avion a year or 2 ago about a kid that did the ASA internship and CAL internship...worked at ASA for a year and jumped to the CAL 757 at 24 years old...

If you can do a regional and a major...DO It...i wish i did...

BTW i think you must be a junior to get credit at Riddle...

I've heard the same story and honestly, that's EXACTLY what I hope to see myself doing. I honestly don't mind ASA and I'm used to the east coast, however, Skywest would be really awesome. I've still got a while to decide, but I was looking at the options. And yes, a LOT of Riddle kids end up going to ASA...I've got 2 friends who just got hired there. I'm looking forward to hearing about their experiences.

Also something that may help me out is that I might be doing the Cape Air internship this summer as a sophmore. I've worked for the company on the ramp in PVD for 2 summers in a row and I'm familiar with both of the people in charge of training and "internship recruiting." That should get me some SIC time and help the TT. I'll also be doing my Single-Commercial here this summer and I might try to sign up for Angel Flight here in Daytona next Fall/Spring if it's possible. That's something that's on the interest list for me to try out at one point.

SkyWest used to not drop their mins for interns. I wouldn't intern there with that in mind. I would try to do two internships. One here (or at another regional) and one at a major.
