Default Humid Training hotel

FYI

For pilots in initial and recurrent training, there have been reports of problems related to humidity at the Holiday Inn Intercontinental in Houston, which is used as our training hotel. I have been in contact with the managers at that hotel and they informed me that the hotel has de-humidifiers available for guest check out. If you find yourself in a damp room, please contact the front desk for one of these units. If you know a new hire who might benefit from this information, please pass it along.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet.... It's been a good distraction from studying for me

Also...If you happen to run into the problem that you have run out of toilet paper because the Good Eats has given you the runs, I have contacted the manager about having large amounts of TP sent to your room with the least amount of wait time. If you know of any pilots in training that could use this information, please pass it along. Thanks.

Default Holiday Inn

Well this place is a real dive. With our training class and this was 5 years ago, we had people changing rooms because of mold. They were getting headaches etc. What was bad is if you are there for any length of time your clothes start to smell as well. Now Good Eats-make sure you carry Imodium. The first night there my roommate had a bug in her salad. Then we had another person have a fingernail in their nachos. Our class president had a live bug in her salad. If you lean against the wall, you can smell the mold. It seems after some flooding a while back they never did modifications etc for mold treatment like they should. I had told the hotel GM that they should fire their kitchen manager because of all the screw ups. If you notice, there is not a whole lot of general public saying at that place. If you are ever stuck in Houston (I am EWR) beg ops for Hilton Gardens. Anyplace but that dive. Could damage your health.

I see somethings never change. I stayed there last year and it was gross. We asked for a fridge on the first day and were told our name was on a list, as was the rest of my class. After returning from training 2 days in a row to find the same fridges in the hallway, we took one for our room. Then we went and made sure everyone from the class had one. That might be the only way you are going to get one. As far as the "Bad Eats" get out of the Hotel. The Kettle across the street is something different, it's along the same lines as Bad Eats as far as quality is concerned, but it will give your stomach a differnt poision. Seriously, if you can get to a grocery store buy somethings to keep in your room and you won't have to rely on the Bad Eats as much.

I would venture that the Holiday Inn won't do anything about the problems because you are new and not going to raise a fuss because you want the job. I know its tough, hang in there, endure, but take notes and pass it along on your end of course evaluation. My philosophy is they can't fix the problem if they don't know about it.

They have fridges here? It's been a week, and I'm still keeping things refrigerated with an ice chest in the corner. I put in for a fridge on the first day I was here, too.

Good Eats: Ate there twice, and I wasn't impressed either time. I was able to get on a shuttle to the Walmart (wish I had a car!), and was able to pick up a ton of cheap eats that don't require refrigeration that'll get me by. The ready-to-eat Dinty Moore beef stew things are pretty good for that. I did get my per diem check today though, and celebrated my indoc test passing with a couple friends at Cheesecake Factory down at the Galleria tonight (one had a car, which is nice). Nice to get out of this moldy hotel.

We got a day of low clouds and a bit of rain, but we didn't see much of the random hurricane that popped out of nowhere. In fact, the morning it was slamming into Lousiana it was mostly clear with light winds here.
