Expressjet is on my list of possibilities. Really only Eagle or Expressjet. Assuming I can somehow get Houston....or better San Antonio, as a base how long is reserve averaging? How long to hold a line?

Well, you'll probably spend 6 months or so on Reserve and 2.5 yrs to upgrade. Of course, that can change every day (and change back, and change again...).

That being said, talk to some people at both places. Eagle's got a board too I'm sure you can Google it. See what their pilots are complaining about. Here, we all complain about things like who controls the temperature knob, and which overnights have better beer opportunities. All in all, I'd say this is a pretty great place if that's what we have to worry about. It's quite possible that being on Reserve here is better than holding a line there.

Agreed. I have a buddy at Eagle who's been there 4 years, still in the right seat and looking at 2 more years to upgrade. Of course the roles may be reversed if (whenever) things change at both places. So in essence, is just a crapshoot. Go for whatever place has reasonably happy employees at the time. Chances are you'll be reasonably happy too. You shouldn't have a problem getting IAH, or at least getting back there within a few months after training.

Welcome to Eaglelounge.com!!!
nothing but poison there...career FO's and displaced captains.

dont go there. been there, done that. left without another job lined up it was that bad! the ONLY reason i would work for them is if I already lived in one of their bases and they were the only option out of that airport.
Xjet seems to be a better place but i never worked there.
good luck.

Yeah I have been to Eagle Lounge, TSA Lounge, Republicpilots.org, jetcareers and airlinepilotcentral. I do a lot of forum reading and talk to the pilots fly for various airlines that pass through my flight school. Everyone has their own opinion. I have another 4 weeks or so until I start applying.

I have been on reserve in Houston now for 4 months, and I will be on reserve next month as well, still about 60 away from holding a relief line. I know several guys who went out west and were only on reserve about a month or so.

It looks like it will be about 6 months on reserve here in Houston as an FO though.

West coast reserve time is <1 mo (for me anyways) and upgrade time is about 18-24 mo, but if your set on Texas I'm sure the waits are longer

Xjet would be a great choice man. I sat 7 weeks before starting IOE, but I think that has changed a bit. It is an amazing company and enjoy all the peeps. Really dude, you'd be doing yourself a huge favor by coming over and joining us. See you around!!!

How hard is it to hold SAT, and what would the commute be like to either SAT or IAH?

Thanks
