Default EWR base question

I'm the "not hired yet" FNG to this site, so go ahead and start bashing- I've done my homework, and XJT seems to have their "sh_t" together and I'd love to work here, but I need EWR. What are the chances? and will the base disappear when the Continental contract goes at the end of the year?

Just for the record, been military for 19 years- flying the combat zone the last 6 years -still gots lotsa respect for all yall flying the commuters- tired of hearing my pilots bitch about the majors- come check out the real workers- good on you my brothers and sisters.

Welcome...

EWR isn't going anywhere for a while...It's still the second (or third?) largest base in terms of # of lines. As long as we fly jets for CAL, there will be a base in EWR.

It had been the most junior base for Captains and had been the base assigned to new hire FO's along with CLE.

Since our west coast operation has opened up LAX/ONT have become most junior for Captains and FOs, although I think some FOs got EWR out of training.

So..I wouldn't worry about EWR not being an option, and you'd be able to be based there out of training or shortly there after.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe all of the 6/4 class got EWR and CLE, nobody got LAX or ONT...so much for "if you're new, I hope you like the west coast."

Jack-

You'd probably be able to get EWR if not right out of training, very very shortly thereafter either via a perm bid or base trade. I'm guessing that you'd probably be the oldest and therefore the most senior person in a training class (amongst 21 yr old Riddle and Auburn guys who never have had a real job in their lives) so you'd get the EWR slot assuming there was one available for the class.

FNG - havent heard that in a while...nice...

Good luck, come on over, its a good place to work and your experience and maturity I am sure would be most welcomed.

Thanks Guys. I appreciate your insight. Maturity and safety are the only things I bring to the table. I used to be one of those 21 years olds, that's why I'm getting into this soooooo late in life. I finally matured!

Don't be too sure you'll be the oldest. Most classes seem to have several in their late 30's and a even one or two in their 40's - lots of career changers, even lawyers and ex-millionaire dotcom types.

What about IAH? Does anyone get assigned there or how long does it take to get there?

Smile Are you in training?

If your in training when you get done I would love to give you EWR FO for your base. I am Based there and I will gladly trade for anything on the west coast. So hit me back there will be cash involved for the trade.

How do you go about trading bases? Can you do that while on reserve?
