Rigger -- I'd like to confirm that, since ExpressJet will be providing all the study material we need, I can leave all the aviation publications that I've accumulated over the years on my bookshelf at home and NOT be saying to myself, "Man I wish I brought my....:
FAA's "Weather Theory,"
FAA's "Weather Services,"
FAA's "Systems for Pilots?"
Some Author's "Multiengine Aircraft for Commercial Pilots,"
Some 15 Other Pilots' "Great Aviation-Related Manual?"

I'm still bringing my FAR/AIM, but do we get a new edition of the FAR/AIM?

Thanks for the help and advice.

  • FAA's Weather Theory: You should already know it... just know how to read a METAR & TAF... and you'll be golden.
  • FAA's Weather Services: You learned this stuff as a PPL... right?
  • FAA's Systems for Pilots: They will teach you every thing you need to know about the systems specific to the aircraft you'll be flying.
  • Some Author's Multiengine Aircraft for Commercial Pilots: The only ME book you need to be reading is the CFM Volume 1 authored by the company... and the CFM Volume II authored by the Brazillian Engineers in Sau Paulo.
  • Some 15 Other Pilots' Great Aviation-Related Manual: Mmmm... no...
  • The FAR / AIM is free online... no need to bring yours... and it's not required to be in our flight kits anyway.
Leave 'em at home...

Bob, just between you and I, "Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot" has got to be a good one to bring right?

Someone in my class brought the "Everything Explained" book. It's not needed, but I know there was a section in there on 8535 that helped some people out.

You can then go to section 3 in your volume 1 “NORMAL PROCEDURES Green Tab and in the first 50 pages (100 front and back). You will find all the expanded procedures, and all the approach stuff. Learn them all, including what you are looking for on the fire test, ice test, hydraulic test etc. Just saying there are 3 red messages and 2 yellow ones won’t cut it know what they say.
Uniform-wise, you're required to buy the blazer, too.

But. . . spend the majority of time in the normal procedures. Yah, yah, review the limitations and memory items every day, but spend the bulk of time in the normal procedures.

Don't be afraid to carry flashcards on the shuttle, review 'em during lunch, review during the extra long breaks, or while spending quality time in the throne room.

You can also go early and stay late (once you have the name badge) at the training center using the various 'paper tigers' that are hanging around. There always seems to be someone, an instructor or someone from an earlier class, that can answer an occasional question.

Thanks for the ones that have gone before for answering the questions of those providing furlough protection on the bottom of the senority list.

I would hire you just based on your personality alone!! I don't care how much time you have.

Not that I mind spending the $$$$, but every one the CINTAS fellow showed me didn't fit. We're not talking about being tight in a few places, we're talking about it'd be easier for me to sew one from scratch than to get the least bad one altered.

Thanks in advance!
