Default 1st class medical rolling over to a 2nd class???

Am I understanding it correctly that as an FO you can allow your 1st class medical to roll over and become 2nd class after the 6 months and still be allowed to fly? Does the CP decide if you can or can't fly or who makes the call? Or basically are all FO's allowed to fly with a 2nd class medical? Who'd I need to talk to? Thanks.

When your 1st class is about to expire(or roll into a 2nd class) you will get a letter in your v-file stating this. If you want to let it roll into a second class you basically just have to sign the part of the letter that says you are going to do this and throw it in the CPO mailbox, not really a big deal at all.

I am a new hire, still waiting for IOE so not even sure if I have a V-file, but I guess I'll ask the CP whenever I get called in to start IOE - thanks for the info.

Just a sticking point of mine due to a legal issue I ran into..... but:

A medical certificate never becomes a lower certificate. They can only expire, be revoked, or renewed at the same or higher class. They just allow you to exercise the priv's of the certificate of a lower class.....

If you want to be an FO, you can operate under the priv's of 2nd class certificate using your "valid" FIRST Class Medical certertificate after it is older than 6 mo's. Get me???? I wish the GI Administrators understood the FAR's - been in courts for over a year.

You'll get a v-file when you finish IOE. Gook luck!
