Default Commute from FL

Hi folks,

I live in FL and would like to commute back and forth to whatever airport I'll be assigned. My question is, how practical is this? I'm not exactly sure what goes into making a 1000 mile commute, but I know it can be accomplished.

Thanks a lot!

I'll take a stab at it. FL to our bases, that isn't too bad! I met a guy the other day that commutes from Seattle to Newark! That's a few more miles than you'll be doing. Just be prepared to pay for a crash pad and spend a lot of time there or on the road while you are on reserve. Once you get off reserve it probably won't be so bad. The difficulty also depends upon which airport you commute from (how many flights per day, how many other commuters, ETC)

Florida to Newark is not bad at all. JetBlue does alot of flights in addition to Continental, so they make a good backup. It depends on where in Florida, but Tampa to Newark and West Palm to Newark are both not too bad. Houston is a little shorter, but there are fewer flights per day, and also fewer airlines to choose from (at least from Tampa). Gulfstream flies between all the airports in Florida, so you also have the option of riding on Gulfstream to a larger airport in Florida then commuting out of that airport. Good Luck!

I commute to EWR out of MCO, "knock on wood", I haven't had any problems yet. It's only a two hour flight in which I spend sleeping anyway. There's many flights a day back and forth betwwen the two cities as well as Jetblue, but rarely have to use them.

Avoid CLE if you can, that is the hardest to commute to from FL. That's only due to lack of flights and need to 2-leg it often.

let me guess, you want to commute from MCO? From a south FL boy I can tell you that commuting from anywhere in FL sucks. Be prepared to sweat while waiting for a flight and seeing CAL or someone senior to you walking to the gate. If you are going to commute out of south FL like PBI or FLL then well you'll see me then! . Serious, 99' hires have a hard time trying to get out of MCO let alone a 07'. Good luck!!
