I would have to agree....DCA is fun. especially the river visual at night.

APP: Jetlink do you see the river?

me to CA: ummm....ummmm....do you see it

CA to me: ummm....ummmm....ummm....no, is that it?

me to CA: ahh....could be....it's shiny and black.

CA to APP: we have a black shiny lookin thing at eleven oclock

APP: close enough. cleared the river visual 19.


never had a problem with the controllers there.

as to the original question...DCA is just another special airport...you're flying with a check airman, why wouldnt you be able to go there?

Nothing to be afraid about. On OE I went into DCA (PNF going in, so I had to use the super secret code-ring password) and going out did the departure off Runway 01 (I got to miss P-56 ). Then next day did the Canarsie VOR 13L into JFK. Inimidating, yes... but only if you totally psych yourself out. Just relax, you'll be fine if these airports are on your pairing in OE.

In the past we did IOE into DCA, then someone screwed up on IOE and it was banned for awhile. Now we can and do IOE to DCA again.
