Default Houston Area Homes

Hey all, just looking for ideas of good places in Houston to look for homes. My wife and I are looking at moving down to the houston area probably early in the spring of '07. We have a soon to be 2 year old son, and are looking for areas that would be good for raising a family, while still affordable on an FO salary (3rd year at that point). Any help would be appreciated.

The Woodlands and Kingwood are two planned communities that are very popular with airline employees, and both are convenient to the airport. Kingwood is NE of the airport, and the Woodlands is just off your left as you make the turn at LYYTE on the RIICE arrival into IAH. (Look for the one tall building next to the mall) Both are supposed to have good schools, and seem like a nice place to raise a family.

I live in the Woodlands and love it, and I don't even have a family. The mall and the market street development is very nice, and it's all very convenient. I'd suggest coming up here to have a look. Home prices here can be higher, but just south of the Woodlands is Spring with many subdivisions that seem reasonable. This is suburbia and the nightlife doesn't compare to downtown, but it's very livable.

Imperial Oaks is located across from the Woodlands on the east side of I45. Go to www.zipreality.com its a great tool for search different areas including this one.

You can also try http://www.har.com, thats the Houston Association of Realtors. I wouldn't recommend my agent but I would highly recommend the agent that had the house that I bought listed. She is with Prudential and her name is Michele Flory, we heard more from her than our own realtor on the deal.

Good luck!

Try looking in Spring Trails. It is just south of the Woodlands but still in Mont. County. There are a lot of different choices as far as size and cost. It is a really nice master planed community that is around 15 minutes from the airport via Hardy Toll Rd. All of the homes are either new or have been built recently.

I'm also in Tomball and enjoy it. Many of the communities are nice around here and are detatched from downtown Houston in many ways yet it's never too far from there when you want to hit up a Stros or Texans game or something. By detatched I mean they don't rely on Houston's downtown for life other than clubs and stuff, but that's not my personal scene anyway. Sugarland was I believe #2 on Money Magazine's Best Places to Live survey this year and seems to show up a lot but it's down on the SW portion of the city, so not next door to IAH...but I suppose worth a look if you'll be down here and then you can decide on distance and commute yourself. HAR is a good website, as was noted above, and there are a couple realtors in dispatch as well, if you're interested. If so PM me and let me know. Otherwise good luck with the search!

You can search all Houston homes for sale at Homes For Sale Houston Tx | Houston MLS | Houses For Sale Houston Tx and get an overview of most of the neighborhoods at Houston Texas Real Estate | Houston Neighborhoods | Houston Housing (including schools, commute, prices, and neighborhood amenities)

I am between The Woodlands and Tomball and I love it. We dont have the taxes of harris county or the taxes of the woodlands, yet all the amenities. The whole area around 2978 and 1488 is really expanding. I agree with Tomball also but the taxes in some of the areas i liked were the reason we didnt stay in tomball.
