Default Father to be question

"I have no where else to go!"

So we have been racking our brains trying to find nice, but of course going with our job, cheap baby furniture. I remember going to Greensboro for an overnight and the plane stacked with fellow New Yorkers coming down to GSO for the weekend to pick out furniture and either renting a Uhaul or shipping furniture back to NY. Amazed that they actually bought a plane ticket, they explained to me, because they make all the furniture in North and South Carolina, even after the plane tickets and shipping they are still only paying a fraction of the cost as prices in the northeast. That being said has anyone ever done anything like this. I have no idea even where to begin. Maybe someone even living in these places know where to go. Any help would be great.

Thanks Fellas

wherever you go, and whatever you buy....do it early. i've known a lot of people (ourselves included) that had a lot of stress because the stuff probably won't be delivered anywhere near the date they tell you. lie about your wife's due date if thy ask you....cause they did that to us.

good luck on the upcoming arrival :!:

P.S. I believe Broyhill has factories out there....our stuff came from somewhere in N.C. Maybe that's a place to start.

What we found out buying baby furniture is that it's usually only available at baby retailers such as Babies R Us.

Due to liability issues and increased government regulations about baby furniture standards, most manufacturers no longer make cribs etc., and it's generally not available from wholesalers like you'll find in the GSO area.

Buy quality stuff! Spend the money and you will not regret it. Get a bed that can covert to a normal bed later on.

I agree with the buy early statement. It will save some headaches down the line. God forbid you end up like we did with our daughter being born nine weeks early. She stayed in the hospital for five weeks but we had bought and set up delivery for a week prior to her due date. She slept in a bassonette for about two weeks. Not good for her and not for us either.

Good luck, congrats and welcome to fatherhood...life will NEVER be the same again!

We bought some nice stuff off E-Bay with local pick-up. Our crib was 800 retail, got it for 200 bucks I think.

Baby Furniture, Baby Clothes everything Baby.

1) Go to the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, (5th ave & 30-60's). Area is almost entirely hispanic, and you'll get the best prices on baby goods. Mind you don't assume it's all cheaply made stuff. It's not. I think that the prices are lower because it's what the market in the area will bear. You'll find exactly the same items at Toy's r us and Baby's R us.

Hispanics tend to be extremely family conscious, and thus tend to go all out for their newborns. Lots of children's clothing, and furniture stores in that area. Also, don't let anyone tell you the area isn't safe, its just may not be what most of us are use to.

2)Another option is Cookies Children's clothing. Can be found Downtown Brooklyn. I think there may be one in Newark also. They sell Furinture as well as clothing (at least in the Brooklyn Store)

3) Finally, try Burlington Coat factory, lot's of selection, but prices are only, Okay.

Good luck.

Man, this is why the "Crew Room" is at the bottom of the list now. Dude, there is a "Home & Family" forum for this stuff. Now it's three more years of probation for the "crew Room".

For those without a sarcasm detector, relax.

Ben is right. In fairness to all the other posters' stuff that's been moved, I've moved this thread to the Home and Family section as well.
