Unhappy Thoughts and prayers for my son

Hey guys and gals,
I feel kinda wierd posting this on here, but we can use all the help we can get. My son who is 6 months old is having to undergo surgery on thursday march 13th at texas childrens hospital. The surgery is to correct a defect from when he was born. The surgery itself isnt too big of a deal they say ( I wonder if they say that to everyone), but the fact that they have to put him under and have to cut into him at all is starting to freak me out a little. I know we slam and pick on one another on here, but I also know when the need arrises that we come together very easliy for each other. Please pray or keep in your thoughts this week, my son, wife and the team of doctors with him. Thank you, my fellow pilots. ~Kevin

You got it chief, consider your kiddo prayed for. I don't have any kiddos of my own yet, but I can't imagine dealing with the "what if" stresses from even a minor procedure. I hope he's home and healthy as soon as possible, doing his darn-dest to make sure you guys stay in a continuous "fatigue" cycle.

Take care now.

I have 2 boys myself. At 6 months my older son had to have a routine minor surgery, but still the thought of going under anesthesia etc made me nuts. Today he is 22. I know what you are going thru. Consider it done to have him in our prayers and you and your wife.

Kevin and family,

Your son will be in our thoughts and prayers. Have a little peace knowing that your child is at one of the best pediatric care hospitals in the USA, if not the world. I am a big fan of Texas Childrens Hospital and a regular there too. When my son was 4 years old he was diagnosed with leukemia and they sent us straight to TCH. The Doctors and Nurses there were all extra patient, helpful and very kind. We never felt rushed or looked over. My son is now 7 plus and after 2 1/2 years, finally off all chemo and meds. He is in remission and every day is a blessing. We are down there at least once a month for follow up checks and blood work. No surgery is minor and I completely understand your nerves and stress over all of this. Take care, be strong and know that we are all pulling and praying for you, your wife and your son. Good Luck and please keep us all posted. He will be in very good hands.
Sincerely, Greg Sauter (CAPT/IAH).

Kevin, No worries. Texas Children's is the BEST! They will treat him like their own. My 4 year old twins had to go in at different times. One at 2.5 months and the other at 18 months. That hospital rocks. We will also say a prayer for your family. TOM

I hope it all goes well. I remember when my son had tubes put in his ears, its harder for us as parents then on the kids i think. Texas Children's is a great hospital your son is in great hands.

We'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way. Like others here, my son had to go into TCH at three months of age for a routine hernia operation...they told us it was fairly common.

For what it's worth, this is how it went....we went in very early in the morning and there were quite a few other young children there for their operations, too. I hate to use the term "like an assembly line," but that's how it was and as it turns out, it was a good way of doing things. We went back with our son and got to meet the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. To be honest, that's what we were most worried about...an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. I remember a nurse asking me if he was allergic to any anesthesia and I was thinking, "He's 3 months old...how the heck would we know?"

Regardless of our fears, the staff was EXCEPTIONAL. Our son was extremely well cared for and if anything, it was our parental anxiety that probably upset him. We got to sit with him as he came out from the anesthesia and when he woke up, the first person he saw was me.

Today my son is a holy terror of a 2 year old giving me more gray hair every day. Have faith...this too shall pass and know that if your child has to undergo this kind of medical care, you truly are blessed to be living in Houston and able to take your child to the best of the best. (And how often do you hear the phrase "blessed to be living in Houston"? ha ha)

Let us know how it goes....
