I have a Golden Retriever and when she was a pup she liked to dig too. Call me old fashion, but when I caught her in the act I simply walked over to her grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and put her nose in the hole and said "NO!" in a firm voice. This happened a total of about 3 times and then she figured it out and hasn't dug a hole since. Goldens and Labs are very intelligent dogs and in the dog world dominance is everything. If you show them you are the boss and you make the rules, be consistent with your rules, your dog will abide by them. I always show my dog praise when she does what she is supposed to do and a lot of it, but unfortunately you have to show them discipline when they do wrong as well. Good luck!
