Default Wife is pregnant! Not a qualified lifestyle change??

Just found out that my wife is pregnant! We are on the 1500 deductable plan and I was under the impression that I could increase coverage to the EPO 90 to offset the cost of having a baby...ie hospital stay, cea section etc...

According to mycoair it is the actual birth of the baby that is the event, and all pregnancy/delivery coverage will be on my own plan. We are talking about a significant difference in out of pocket expenses.

Does this sound right to you guys?

That is correct. A new medical condition doesn't count as a lifestyle change. That's been the standard for all the insurance companies we've ever had.

You should be able to change when they have open enrollment in the fall though- if you can, that will still help with some of the major labor and delivery costs, even though it won't take effect until the first of the year or so.

Yeah that!

If you just found out she is pregnant... then you get the advantage of not paying the higher premium for the 90/10 plan all this year, but you will be able to take full advantage of it after the birth (as long as you switch over during open enrollment this fall).

So... it's really not a bad thing in your current position... as long as the due date is after the benefit start period.

Thanks for the info guys. Doc says the due date is the 10th of January so if the new plan kicks in 1st of the year it should work out perfect.
I feel a lot better now
