Thumbs down Airtran to furlough 180.

Just read AAI is to furlough 180 pilots in September and is asking pilots for 11% cut in CA pay and 8% from FO's. Furloughs will go to September 07'

Your union leadership met with Management at the NPA offices this morning. Steve Kolski and Klaus Goersch addressed the NPA Board of Directors, the Negotiating Committee and our professional consultants. Their primary message was a summary regarding the financial state of AirTran Airways.

Most significantly affecting the pilot group is the subject of pending furloughs. With record oil prices, AirTran Airways has been forced to greatly reduce its capacity. This reduction is expected to take effect in September. Such a reduction in capacity has led Management to conclude that furloughs are necessary. As of today, the NPA anticipates approximately 180 furloughs, with an official reduction in force notification due in a matter of days. This number could change according to several variables that are impacting our airline and industry on a daily basis. We are currently negotiating benefits and protections for the pilots affected by a furlough.

Additionally, Management has notified all employees of AirTran Airways regarding its need for temporary, short-term concessions, as part of the Company’s efforts to address the current industry crisis. Management has requested an 11% wage reduction for Captains and an 8% wage reduction for First Officers. The NPA leadership is currently reviewing Management’s request for concessions. Any letter of agreement involving wages concessions would be subject to member ratification. The NPA will keep you apprised as more information is made available

Yeah that's the union email.. Not much we can do about the furloughs but I really don't think the pay cut will pass. General mood on the crew bus yesterday was "No way"
Good times.

Glad to hear that no one is going to tolerate more pay cuts (not that anyone can afford them, anyway...) Hope they can stick with it in dealing with management.

Yep, there comes a point when it is no longer worth hanging in there. We all have ever rising bills to pay and FO's simply cannot afford to take a cut with our current rates.
I am all for mitigating furloughs but the small amount of cash the FO pay cut would save really wont help anyone least of all the airline. Maybe the boss can give back his 4 million Dollar bonus.
