You know I've always wondered this, but as far as I know, they DO NOT upgrade those coach pax to bf, they will rebook them on the next available flight. A good trick to see what actually goes on is to look at the pbt in sonic for an international flight (EWR-LHR for example) about 2 hours before the flight leaves, then check it again about an hour after it leaves and it says "CLOSED" in the pbt to see how many people actually got on the plane, and in what class. Everytime I've done that with this type of situation, coach has gone full but bf still had open seats...
