Sort of like when you book a ticket on-line, it tells you whether a meal, snack or beverage-only service is being provided. That info on the boarding pass would just be an additional reminder to the customer to feed the pie hole before boarding.
Not sure if that's correct or not. Just a thought.

In 4 pages of BS, this is most likely the correct answer. I have noticed most of the time (I don't always pay close attention) that it is "information" for the passenger as to what they will be served. I very seriously doubt that it had anything to do with buddy pass/non-rev...FWIW...
As an aside, I never ask if the "service" is just a muffin in the am. I know that they are always catered with more than enough muffins, and that on am flights a lot of people are sleeping/don't want a fat bomb muffin. If it is a trans-con/longer flight, I ALWAYS simply say "Do you have enough for everyone, I am a non-rev" and without fail the FAs say "thanks for asking, we have plenty" or "you know, let me finish up and I will come back..." Just common f*cking courtesy.
