"Mainline"... are you referring to the branded operations out of ONT/ LAX or the COEX operations in IAH/CLE/EWR?

I have trouble keeping up with all the different flying that XJT does these days.

Ditto....this is stupid, arguing over whether one needs to ask whether there are enough meals available for a non-rev. Look, years and years ago it was pretty standard to ask, back in the days where all airlines just catered to the PBTs. Later on they started catering quite a bit more than PBTs so meals weren't an issue and the need to ask went by the wayside.

Bottom line, if they want us to start asking about meal availability, I'm sure we'll see a CCS message or some such thing. Until then, why worry so much about what other people are doing? You all rise to the bait so quickly around here....wound up waaaaaaaayy too tight.

Sort of like when you book a ticket on-line, it tells you whether a meal, snack or beverage-only service is being provided. That info on the boarding pass would just be an additional reminder to the customer to feed the pie hole before boarding.

Not sure if that's correct or not. Just a thought.
In 4 pages of BS, this is most likely the correct answer. I have noticed most of the time (I don't always pay close attention) that it is "information" for the passenger as to what they will be served. I very seriously doubt that it had anything to do with buddy pass/non-rev...FWIW...

As an aside, I never ask if the "service" is just a muffin in the am. I know that they are always catered with more than enough muffins, and that on am flights a lot of people are sleeping/don't want a fat bomb muffin. If it is a trans-con/longer flight, I ALWAYS simply say "Do you have enough for everyone, I am a non-rev" and without fail the FAs say "thanks for asking, we have plenty" or "you know, let me finish up and I will come back..." Just common f*cking courtesy.

Oh sorry it was on CAL from FLL --> CLE. PBT was somewhere in the 80s.

Yes it definitely is etiquette and we were told this in indoc when I was hired. I do agree that non-rev passes were a lot cheaper back then. Your Buddy pass people don't have to put up with the "B.S.", they can always go buy a ticket at the full price, right?
