An XJT CA will probably have a new CAL pilot beat for at least 10 years on the W2s. That is a fact, especially when you throw in the furlough for CAL.
Going to CAL was a bad decision for the ex-XJT guys. That's just the way it is!

I hope I am wrong about this, but I really get the feeling from reading alot of these posts that there is a sense of excitement that CAL pilots might have to go through a furlough. It seems as though many XJT pilots are thinking "It's their turn to get screwed." I am a former XJT pilot, now at CAL, I can remember thinking when they announced that 69 airplanes were being pulled that CAL was the enemy, but certainly not the CAL pilots.
Let's not forget that until a week ago things were not looking good for XJT pilots either. But with the exception of a few class of 83-85 pilots, nobody at CAL was excited to see Express take a turn for the worse. Most everybody that I talked with felt very badly about what was happening to XJT. When we were still hiring I, and countless other pilots at CAL, helped as many XJT people as we could get over to CAL.
Those of us that came to CAL did so because we felt it was the right decision at the time, and I still do. Even if I have to endure the furlough I will still come back to a good job that I really enjoy. I feel that the different types of flying that we do has led to a better quality of life for myself and my family. Sure, I wish things were better now, but I will never regret my decision to make the jump when I did.

You know do not let them flow back plain and simple. Just like before, when they are finished recalling they will cancel the flow through and you'll be lucky if you get pref interviews.....bunch of douchebags at cal.......we all know this.

I don't want to see any pilot lose a job or get a furlough notice. I have to laugh at your comment. The only pilots at Cal that might care must have gone there within the last year. I jumpseated on numerous flights and not one pilot knew anything about what was happening at Express.
They looked at me like I was crazy for looking at Emirates. I actually had a Cal captain ask me why I haven't applied at Continental yet. Neither crew member even knew that Cal had stopped hiring let alone every other major airline.
Like I said I don't want to see any pilot lose a job but most pilots at majors don't know and probably don't care about any regional carrier.

Far from truth and there are many posts besides mine that wish no furloughs at CAL. You probably are a little sensitive. The last place I would be if I were a CAL pilot would be on the ExpressJet pilot pipe reading about furlough threads about CAL because I know it would piss me off. So try to take a break and remember that majority of us Express pilots do not spend 24/7 on the pipe. So you are looking at a snapshot of a minority. Take it easy man.. Stay off the crack. Its good for U.

Bad karma to wish furlough at a traditional legacy carrier like Continental compared to a Skybus or Mesa type operation. But I do think there were some frustrations including myself that Continental did become somewhat of the new Yonited in their hiring process. Not bitter, but I think living with the flowbacks, then having the rug pulled, and then seeing the Continental become mighty selective if you weren't family connected or of certain demographics and then almost pulling all the flying from XJT makes many including myself hold less than high regards.

It's ok, I have flown a lot on CAL since I left and been asked some weird questions. The best was if I was just waiting to apply to CAL or did I like flying a turbo prop overseas. He turned a weird shade of red when the Captain actually knew who Cathay was and what we flew etc.
No one wants to see a furlough but it isn't up to any of us. The bad part is that no one is really hiring right now. We've slowed down in N. America since we just got a bunch of 744 typed guys dumped in our laps with Oasis shutting down. I feel bad for those guys and hope that it doesn't come to that. I can't imagine anyone that would be happy about it.

So what demographics do you have to be to get hired?
