I am thinking of swithching my base to IAH "hopefully" for a better life style. I really don't have any problem with the flying and crews in EWR but it is not a very good life style for my wife and I. Can anyone tell me a little about the city of Houston? Good parts, bad parts, what it is like being based there? We are still young and not really looking for a house to settle down in, but a nice appartment close to things to do would be cool. Any help would be appreciated.

Any where North the 9-27 centerline will be a fine place to live. Spring, Humble, Atascocita, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Champions and some of the other burbs are nice places to live and are close to the airport.
By the way houses are very cheap compared with EWR. Rent is a waste of money. For what you pay in rent where you are you could own a home in IAH. PM me if you need a good agent.

There are some parts of Houston that aren't that bad, like the above said. My recommendation woul dbe to live in Austin. It's about a 3hr drive north of Houston, but there are a ton of flight back and forth each day. Austin, in my opinion (and everyone else I've ever spoken to about it) is 100 times better than houston. Certainly not as hot or humid either in the summer.

Just a thought!

I second the places to live. Anywhere north of FM1960 is a pretty safe bet.

And definitely reconsider a house. It's no exaggeration that you'll pay the same or less for a mortgage on a three BR house, than you would for a decent two-three bedroom apartment. (I know I am saving over a hundred bucks a months vs. what my wife and would've paid for rent)

And if you decide to move out, turn it into a crashpad!

Better lifestyle? Not at this company. Plan on getting around 13 days off a month unless you're real crafty.

Do any of you guys have any examples of what you were paying in rent and what kind of apartment it was vs. what you're paying for your house (and what type of house it is, location, etc.)? The wife and I are moving there soon and are contemplating buying. Thanks.
