There are currently two private forums here at "The Pipe":
- The "Cockpit" was established for ExpressJet pilots
- The "Hangar" was established for ExpressJet maintenance personnel
Threads posted in these private forums must meet two criteria:
- They must pertain to that employee group AND ONLY that employee group
- The topic is one that needs to be kept low-key
Just because a forum is private DOES NOT mean management can't read it!!!
There will always be brown-nosers among our ranks who go through the verification process and would gladly offer their user names and password to the higher ups. (You know the type.) And there will always be those who access The Pipe on public computers (e.g. crew room) but fail to log off, giving everyone who comes after them access to their user account. Therefore, absolutely no effort is being made to keep management out of these private forums. If a manager's name appears on the appropriate seniority list, and that individual submits for verification, it will be granted. Therefore, you must assume that everything you write will be read by your supervisor, regardless of whether it's posted in a public or private forum!
In order to submit for verification, simply follow these steps:
We first need to know what your email address is here, at "The Pipe". That information can be found under the "User CP" section in the top left-hand corner of the screen, as shown below:
Once you're there, select the "Edit Email & Password" link, as shown below:
Your email address here at "The Pipe" is displayed on this page. Copy this email address into your computer's clipboard.
After this is done, go to https://mail.xjt.com. Please note there is no "WWW" in the web address! The address is simply "mail.xjt.com".
(EVERY ExpressJet employee has a company email account, regardless of whether they know about it, and regardless of whether the account has ever been used before.)
Once you're there, check the site's SSL certificate. (This is wise anytime you're on a website that needs to be secured.) Make sure the "Common Name" reads "mail.xjt.com" and the "Organization" reads "ExpressJet Airlines". This helps ensure you're (1) connected to the correct website, and that (2) that your connection is encrypted.
Log in with your employee number and password. If you have any trouble logging in, or do not know your password, you will need to give the ExpressJet help desk a call at the numbers provided on the screen.
After you've logged into the Webmail site, compose a new email by selecting the "New" button, as shown below:
Address your email to one of the verification email addresses (depending on your employee group), as shown below. Leave the subject line empty/blank. In the message body, simply paste your email address from "The Pipe". (That's what you just copied into your computer's clipboard.) PLEASE DON'T INCLUDE ANYTHING ELSE!!! No "hi, how are you?". No "please verify me for access to the...." Just your email address, nothing more.
Next, hit the "Send" button in the top left-hand corner of the message in order to send your verification request.
Several minutes later, you should receive an automated reply, as shown below. This means that your request has been received, and will be processed soon.
Verification requests are usually processed twice a week. If there are any problems with your request, you'll be sent another email with an explanation. Otherwise, you'll know you've been approved when you're able to access the appropriate private forum for your employee group.
