You could make enough money to live comfortably but you'll need to be patient and willing (ie, no debt issues or other pressing financial responsibilities) b/c it will take time and, really, luck. It's also a very unstable field, especially in the airline business, so that's not a great thing to keep in the back of your mind if you have a family. You can still be involved with aviation, even as a pilot, in many other areas with more job security and better pay; just remember that the goal is to enjoy your job and feel satisfied with your work.

Depending on what you're into you might want to flight instruct or add hours and experience another way and try flying corporate, but that lifestyle can be taxing too. There are plenty of ways to go about a flying career (or non-flying aviation career) so look into everything and try various ones is my recommendation. Get the experience and it wouldn't hurt to get a degree in something other than aviation...just in case. And hey, there's nothing wrong with just flying for fun in your own time instead of doing it as a career! That's just as much an option--keep the flying fun!
