So is it the reserves responsibility to get himself listed? As a reserve I deadhead often, typically with short notice, and end up missing a few because the flight is full and CS failed to list me. Exactly how is this my fault? If we could list ourselves positive space I would agree with you, but since we are not empowered as such I disagree with you-it's my responsibility to be at the gate on time for the DHD, it's the responsibility of CS to ensure I am listed for that flight.

Right now I am a line holder, but I remember reserve very well. Even line holders are not listed for deadheads sometimes. I personally do think that it is the pilots responsibility to make sure he is listed and checked in for the flight. Like you said you are required to be at the gate at the time of the DHD, but shouldn't you also have your boarding pass? Within 24 hours I check sonic for my locator and if I am not listed I will immediately call CS. 99% of the time they will list me right there, one time I had to wait until 2359 and call back.
