They looked at me like I was crazy for looking at Emirates. I actually had a Cal captain ask me why I haven't applied at Continental yet. Neither crew member even knew that Cal had stopped hiring let alone every other major airline.
Like I said I don't want to see any pilot lose a job but most pilots at majors don't know and probably don't care about any regional carrier.

It's ok, I have flown a lot on CAL since I left and been asked some weird questions. The best was if I was just waiting to apply to CAL or did I like flying a turbo prop overseas. He turned a weird shade of red when the Captain actually knew who Cathay was and what we flew etc.
No one wants to see a furlough but it isn't up to any of us. The bad part is that no one is really hiring right now. We've slowed down in N. America since we just got a bunch of 744 typed guys dumped in our laps with Oasis shutting down. I feel bad for those guys and hope that it doesn't come to that. I can't imagine anyone that would be happy about it.
