We just broke ground a couple weeks ago. Man, talk about stress. Its hard to do but I think it'll be worth it. I HIGHLY recomend going with an energy star rated home. It'll help pay for itself. I'm not sure where you are but up here in the northeast oil is about 4 bucks a gallon. That would turn into around 4500 bucks a year just to heat. We went with geothermal heating. The electric bill goes up but only by about 1200 a year. For heating and cooling. Even if you don't use heat and just A/C, you'll still see massive savings with good insulation. We could have built our home for about 30K less but it'll pay for itself over time. PM me if you have any questions. Its tempting to buy a used home with the market right now, but if you plan on dying there, this is the way to go.
