because by definition god swings both ways. (not that there's anything wrong with that...) he can eat the cake and have it too. if she survives 5 years instead of 2, it's a miracle helped by prayers. if she dies, it was part of god's plan and she's in a better place. (btw - if god has plans, why do you think prayers can make him change his plans?)
This eases the mourning and explains what otherwise defies explanation. This is why religion is easy to sell and is so popular - it helps the weak deal with reality. (once again - no offense to anyone)
